[1] Dr. Luca Corelli Grappadelli

Luca Corelli Grappadelli is an Ecophysiologist at the University of Bologna (Italy), where he has taught courses on Tree Physiology, Arboriculture, Fruit Growing, Viticulture. A Fulbrighter in his early days, Luca for over 40 years has researched tree efficiency, light relations, photosynthesis, water relations, and fruit vascular flow physiology. These studies are the foundation for Precision Orchard Management work that has attracted his interest in recent years. A keen pursuer of ecological efficiency, Luca has explored light relations with the goal of reducing the negative effects of excessive light levels on canopies, which opened work on aggressive reduction of light levels and subsequent reduction of irrigation volumes. Agrivoltaics is the natural conclusion of these studies, although the effect of shading impacts more fruit vascular flows than tree photosynthesis, which requires species-specific adaption of sun tracking strategies. He has coordinated/carried out research in many EU, national and regional projects. His international experience includes almost 4 years working in the US, Australia, South Africa. Luca enjoys scientific challenges and tries to maintain a perspective on the global Fruit Industry by actively engaging in international endeavors.
