Young Minds Committee

Are you an ISHS student member embarking upon your academic journey or an ISHS early-career professional member?
ISHS Young Minds
  • Do you believe you have the power to make the world a better place?
  • Do you aspire to transform the world through horticulture?
  • Are you looking for professional guidance and mentoring to support your career?
  • If so, the ISHS Young Minds Committee is there for you!
The ISHS Young Minds Committee is composed of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and general members. The Committee is coordinated and supervised by the ISHS Board member responsible for Young Minds.
  • Young Minds Committee member candidates are screened and selected by an ISHS Selection Committee
  • The maximum duration for a Young Minds Committee member to serve on the Committee is 4 years
  • Half of the Young Minds Committee members rotate off every 2 years to ensure continuity
  • Call for candidates and selection process conducted every other year
  • Age limit for students or early-career professionals to join the Young Minds Committee is 40 years
  • Composed of one ISHS Student member and one ISHS Early-Career Professional member from each of the six ISHS World Regions
  • It is only possible to run as a representative of the region where the candidate currently resides
  • The President and Vice-President are elected by the Committee members themselves
  • ISHS Young Minds Committee, by means of its status as a Special Division Young Minds, is an integral part of the ISHS
  • The President of the ISHS Young Minds Committee is the Chair of the Special Division Young Minds
  • The President provides an annual report of the activities of the ISHS Young Minds Committee to the Chair of the ISHS Executive Committee
  • The President attends and has voting rights at the annual meeting of the ISHS Executive Committee

  • Africa: Student: Winnie Wambugu (Kenya) and Early Career: Keanu Martin (S. Africa)
  • Asia: Student: Lijun Zhou (China) and Early Career: Hyungmin (Tony) Rho (Taiwan/S.Korea)
  • Europe: Student: Isabella Righini (Italy/The Netherlands) and Early Career: Marta Silva (Portugal)
  • North America: Student: Chayce Griffith (USA) and Early Career: Scott Orr (USA)
  • Oceania: Student: Navneet Kaur (Australia) and Early Career: Claire Scofield (New Zealand)
  • South America: Student: Rayan Vargas (Brazil/Argentina) and Early Career: Sofia Flores (Peru)

The formal establishment of the ISHS Young Minds Committee took place on February 14, 2024 and resulted in establishing the following leadership roles: President: Chayce GriffithVice-President: Winnie Wambugu and Secretary: Lijun Zhou.
