A meeting was recently held between the Vice-Chair of ISHS Working Group Saffron, Prof. Mahmoud A. Sharafeldin, Convener of the VII International Symposium on Saffron Biology and Technology, which will be part of S10 – International Symposium on Medicinal, Aromatic Plants and Natural Colorants at the XXXII International Horticultural Congress (IHC2026), 23-28 August 2026, Kyoto, Japan (https://www.ishs.org/symposium/899), and Dr. Nizar Haddad, FAOSA Programme Director, to exchange views on saffron-related research and horticultural development.

The discussion explored potential areas for collaboration, particularly in research, technical cooperation, and knowledge exchange, with an emphasis on sustainable production and the application of scientific expertise in programmes.
