[1] Dr. Lorenzo Burgos (Spain)

Dr. Lorenzo Burgos’ research interests are in agricultural biotechnology for plant improvement, with a focus on tree crops and stone fruit. Work involves plant tissue culture, in vitro culture, plant genetics, molecular biology and the generation of transgenic plants by transformation. His work has resulted in the commercial release of eight new apricot cultivars and two new nectarine/peach cultivars, as well as more than 200 publications related to biotechnology. Currently, Dr. Lorenzo Burgos is trying to develop protocols for the production of edited non-transgenic fruit trees since it seems that they will be finally accepted by Europe as normal breed plants. Dr. Burgos is Chair of ISHS Working Group Genetic Transformation and Gene Editing.

[2] Dr. Surendra Kumar Malik (India)

More than 30 years’ experience of management of plant genetic resources, in vitro conservation and cryopreservation, molecular characterization, community seed system, in-situ on-farm conservation, PGR HRD and extension. Published more than 200 research articles on PGR with citation index- 3286, h-index- 32 and i10-index 74. Published 30 books and technical bulletins. Actively associated with ISHS since last 17 years and contributed as Symposium Co-Convener of the X International Scientific and Practical Conference on Biotechnology as an Instrument for Plant Biodiversity Conservation (physiological, biochemical, embryological, genetic and legal aspects), editor of Acta Horticulturae, reviewer, scientific committee member, presenter and participant in International events. Coordinated 10 National and International trainings on PGR. Fellow of Indian Academy of Hort. Sciences, Indian Soc. of Plant Genetic Resources, Indian Soc. of Citriculture.
