The International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) is pleased to announce its participation in the:
AGRA African Food Systems Forum
which will be held from September 1 to 5, 2025, at CICAD International Conference Center in Dakar, Senegal.
All stakeholders from the African continent and around the world are invited to two key events organized alongside the forum:
1. Multi‐stakeholder roundtable
Date and time: Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm local time
Location: in‐person only at CICAD, Dakar, Senegal
Theme: “The multiple benefits of underutilized species for food sovereignty in Africa”
Panelists: AFSA, FAO, ISRA, AgroSEED, ISHS
Facilitation: CIRAD
This roundtable will be an opportunity to deliver a strong message on the still‐unexplored potential of traditional African crops, particularly horticultural crops (fruits, vegetables, spices, aromatic and medicinal plants), to strengthen the continent’s resilience and food and nutritional security.
2. Meeting with African horticultural stakeholders and their international partners
Immediately following the roundtable, discussions will continue during a virtual open session dedicated to strengthening and boosting ISHS activities in Africa. We will discuss building strong institutional partnerships with the entire horticultural, agronomic, socioeconomic, medical, and environmental community: governments, public institutions, higher education, research organizations, the economic sector, and civil society.
This meeting will be held from 2:30pm to 4:00pm at Amadou Makhtar Mbow University (UAM), located in Diamniadio, just 5 minutes from CICAD. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the session; a free shuttle will bring participants from CICAD to UAM and back again.
This will be a unique opportunity to interact directly with members of the ISHS Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Council, led by its President, Dr. François Laurens (INRAE, France). Join us to build the future of horticulture in Africa, together!
