Science Meets Industry at Macfrut 2026: Powering the Future of Sustainable Horticulture

The International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) is delighted to announce a free workshop Powering the Future of Sustainable Horticulture: Science × Industry at Macfrut 2026 (Rimini, Italy), a leading international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector.

As global horticulture faces mounting pressure, from climate change and resource scarcity to emerging pests and shifting consumer expectations, the need for faster, more effective transfer of knowledge from science to practice has never been greater. With this session ISHS aims to strengthen dialogue between academia and industry creating the opportunity for researchers, companies and innovators to explore new models of collaboration and accelerate sustainable innovation across the horticulture value chain.

The workshop will highlighting the role of ISHS in connecting scientists, fostering high-quality research and disseminating knowledge worldwide. It will outline why stronger interaction between academia and industry is essential; industry provides insight into operational needs and market demands, while science contributes evidence-based solutions, long-term vision and credibility.

Hosted by ISHS experts including Prof. Bruno Mezzetti and Dr. Lukas Bertschinger and with the keynote contribution of Valtiero Mazzotto, UNITEC-Group, the workshop will explore strategic discussions shaping the future of sustainable horticulture.

The workshop is particularly relevant for companies and institutions active in:

  • Pre-harvest technologies and plant breeding
  • Post-harvest conservation, processing and packaging
  • Berry production
  • Healthy food segments
  • Avocado and mango value chains
  • Nurseries and start-ups

Join the debate at Macfrut 2026 on Tuesday, April 21 at 10.30.
Free for Macfrut attendees.
