Rubus and Ribes Species and Management
The Working Group Rubus and Ribes Species and Management addresses all aspects of production and management of cultivated and foraged species within these two genera, including raspberry, blackberry, currant, and gooseberry. Plant physiology, breeding, genetics, phytosanitary certification of plants, digital agriculture, postharvest physiology and management, and new and optimized growing techniques that improve production efficiencies and contribute to sustainable production are of interest to the Working Group. This Working Group operates under Division Vine and Berry Fruits. The goal of this Working Group is to facilitate communication and collaboration among researchers, extension specialists, private companies and other allied members that work with these species that produce fruits valued for their flavor and human-health promoting attributes.
The main activity of the Working Group is the organization of the International Rubus and Ribes Symposia. The main purpose of the symposia is to bring together academics, researchers, extension agents, industry and other disciplines for discussions and ‘fruitful’ collaborations. Additionally, this Working Group remains active in other initiatives of international interest, such as participation in the Berry Symposia planned every four years at the International Horticultural Congress and the European Horticultural Congress. In addition, the Working Group interacts with other ISHS Working Groups on matters pertaining to Working Group objectives.
We encourage all those involved in Rubus and Ribes research to join and become actively involved in this Working Group.
