Mango

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is one of the world’s most prized tropical fruits, with a domestication history spanning over 4,000 years. Today, it is cultivated across the tropics and subtropics on every major continent and traded globally, playing a vital role in food systems, economies, and cultures.

The Working Group Mango is a specialised subgroup supported by the Division Tropical and Subtropical Fruit and Nuts. The Working Group serves as a global platform, dedicated to international knowledge exchange, advancing global collaboration and promoting mango research, innovation, science and production.

The Working Group brings together researchers, breeders, extension specialists, agronomists and mango growers with other industry stakeholders to address key challenges and opportunities across the mango value chain.

The Working Group enables these aims by promoting scientific publications, facilitating collaborative networks and organising regular international symposia, which highlight the latest scientific and technological developments in mango physiology, breeding, genetics, crop production, postharvest management, processing and marketing. These symposia provide a unique forum for international delegates to come together to address key challenges and opportunities while developing networks and collaborations. Symposium delegates share ideas, research findings, methodologies, and practical experiences, contributing to the continued evolution of science related to mango. Since the first symposium in 1989, many International Mango Symposia have been held across key mango-producing regions worldwide.
