Abstract
Embryogenesis induction from anthers of diploid and triploid loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) was evaluated.
The effects of cultivar, stage of flower buds and culture media were tested.
A correlation was found between diameters of the flower buds and the microspore developmental stages in both diploid and triploid loquat cultivars.
Callus induction rates in the appropriate media varied according to the loquat cultivars used, ranging from about 60 (triploid) to 78% (diploid). The diploid and triploid cultivars shared the same pattern in the embryoid induction influenced by zeatin, NAA, and IBA, although the optimal media for anther embryoid induction was cultivar dependent.
