Abstract
Practising horticultural therapy with psychiatric clients is a challenge.
The particular client type, the means of horticultural therapy, the choice of methods and the targeted goals are the focus of this article.
The questions to be answered in this paper are: what were the main agents which helped clients to take the most out of horticultural therapy? Was it the plants or was it the people? Was it the therapist, the methods used, the plants or other relevant aspects? On the basis of the author’s experience as a horticultural therapist with this patient group, the paper concludes that the key factors are contact, change and self-reflective processes which open a way to personal improvement.
