Abstract
The X International Workshop on Sap Flow took place in the Fullerton Arboretum in Fullerton, California, USA, on May 22 to 26, 2017. Participants from 19 countries presented sap flow measurements in natural ecosystems and horticulture and discussed many other aspects of water movement in plants, including structure-function relationships, the physiology of water transport, methodology for research on water transport and plant hydraulics.
As previous meetings in this continuing workshop series, the meeting stood out for bringing together basic research and theory about plant water use and water transport mechanisms with practical applications for irrigation and water conservation.
The papers resulting from the meeting and collected in this volume of Acta Horticulturae reflect this unique combination of basic and applied research on plant water use, a topic of increasing importance in the face of climate change and declining freshwater availability worldwide.
