Abstract
Compared to other apple cultivars it is even more important in production of cultivar ‘Nicoter’ to avoid an excessive crop load, which results in a small fruit size and poor red colour formation and thus, in a low percentage of fruits that can be sold under the trademark name Kanzi®. Hence, fruit thinning is usually necessary to improve the profitability of this crop.
In this trial, the efficacy of the thinning agents 6-benzyladenine (Exilis®) and metamitron (Brevis®) was evaluated in apple cultivar ‘Nicoter’ at two different application dates in May 2017. Exilis® was applied at 5.0 L ha‑1 orchard, Brevis® at 1.1 and 1.65 kg ha‑1 orchard.
For both thinning agents, the best results were obtained with the late application.
The strongest thinning was observed with 1.65 kg ha‑1 Brevis®.
