Abstract
With the introduction of growing plants on artificial substrates and in nutrient solutions, pathogenic problems of the roots, the collar and the vascular system arised in a particular way.
From literature and the practical situation we know these problems for e.g. Fusarium, Phytophthora and Didymella. Especially in NFT systems, there is a great danger of disease spread from a primary infection.

In this study possibilities for infection and control of different fungi in tomato crops were studied.
This was done for : Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici race 1 and 2, Pythium ultimum, P. debaryanum, P. sylvaticum and Phytophthora nicotianae var. nicotianae.

To control the Pythiaceous fungi, metalaxyl was used in concentrations ranging from 5 till 40 ppm a.i. in the solution.
Data about disease control, phytotoxicity, stability in the solution and residues in the tomato fruits are discussed.
