Abstract
Bouvardia is an old flower crop, in which people have become interested again during the last few years.
From 1977 on production has increased very rapidly.
The main causes for this increase are: improvement of the keepability because of an addition of a preservative and more knowledge of cultivation and production planning.
At the moment Bouvardia can be produced the year round by using the daylength reaction of the plant.
Bouvardia is a short day plant.
In winter vegetative growth can be promoted by lighting with incandescent lamps.
During summer two to three weeks short days (ten hours) will be enough for flower induction.
Temperature can shift the sensitivity for the daylength reaction a little.
By application of short and long day periods three to four harvesting times during a year are possible.
