Abstract
Investigations on the rooting of stem cuttings of Japanese plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) cv.
Kataru Chak and Lalri were conducted in the Fruit Nursery of Khalsa College, Amritsar during 1985–86. Basal and sub-apical stem cuttings were taken from semi-mature previous season’s wood and treated with Indolebutyric acid at the concentrations of 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 ppm.
In general, all the IBA treatments promoted the rooting percentage, number of roots per cutting, root length, root weight, number of shoots per cutting, shoot length, shoot thickness, number of leaves per cutting and leaf area.
However, in all the above parameters IBA 100 ppm proved to be best treatment.
The basal stem cuttings gave more per cent rooting success as compared to sub-apical stem cuttings.
The shoot length and thickness, number of shoots per cutting, number of leaves per cutting, number of roots per cutting and root weight was found to be greater in basal stem cuttings.
