Abstract
Blue orchard bee eggs and fifth instar larvae were inoculated with known concentrations of Ascosphaera sp. spores and reared at three different temperatures.
Chalk brood incidence was highest in eggs treated with 100,000 spores and reared at lower temperatures (21°C). Offspring of field populations were contaminated by forcing females to emerge through larval cadavers filled with chalk brood spores.
Infection rates varying from 0 to 54% suggested a varietal difference in the pathogenicity of Ascosphaera sp. # 2 on the blue orchard bee.
