Abstract
The importance of developing a pest management strategy which is more appropriate to the 1990’s is discussed.
Motivation for change includes consumer and environmental issues.
Basic research and the multidisciplinary approach to research needed to achieve an Integrated Pest Management program is discussed.
An outline of the control strategies which may be adopted as components of an IPM program is given.
