Abstract
For medium term conservation of horticultural species, various routine techniques are now employed extensively.
For long term conservation, cryopreservation (-196°C) is presently the only technique available.
It has been applied to more than 40 horticultural species.
However, its routine use still remains exceptional.
The current development of new storage techniques is discussed.
