Abstract
The Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Leaf Area Density (LAD) of a peach tree trained to palmette were correlated to the wind speed recorded at two heights inside the canopy and normalized to the above canopy wind speed.
The resulting attenuation coefficient ranged from 1.3 to 1.9, providing a very good index of canopy flow in relation to element density and structure.
The attenuation coefficient can be considered a conservative measure of air flow response to the various stages of the tree growth; its parameterization for canopy exchange models is related to the canopy’s geometrical arrangement.
