Abstract
In order to mitigate the rise in air and plant temperature, more than 80% of the Danish greenhouses are equipped with shading screens.

Until now the shading system has been mounted in that way that the whole greenhouse is shaded and the same screen material is used in both sides of the greenhouse.
The system is operated as a whole without regard to sun position and elevation.

A new shading screen system which is divided into two separated screens, one for each roof side is developed.

A commercial climate computer operate each of the screens individually in according to outdoor irradiance and energy flux through the roof surfaces.
The results of the new shading screen design and control strategy is a more homogeneous light distribution in the greenhouse and an increase in natural ventilation rate.

With small adjustment the shading screen system can be applied to mediterranean conditions.
