Abstract
Optimal control problems in agriculture have a number of characteristic features such as high non-linearities, poor initial estimate of the optimal solution, stiffness and uncertainty in model parameters and in exogenous disturbances.
Although these features are not exhaustive nor unique to agricultural systems, the associated optimal control problems do require appropriate solution techniques.
A survey of current numerical methods will be outlined to address these features with a view to proposing new solution methods.
