Abstract
Mineral uptake by woody plants assumes that changes in a nutrient solution are due to the physiological activity of roots.
Analysis of these changes forms the basis of this work. Weigela japonica (Caprifoliaceae) plants were grown in an inert substrate with recirculating nutrient solution containing the elements N-NO3, N-NH4, P, K, Ca, Mg and Na.
The experiments were repeated for two years in succession.
Modelling of the recirculating nutrient solution data allowed uptake curves to be produced covering a period of several months.
This method enabled results to be obtained during the unavoidable operations of maintenance and nutrient solution renewal.
The validity of the integration data model was assessed at the end of the cultivation period by comparison with the measured plant mineral content.
