Abstract
Automatic transportation of workers performing plant treatments is commonly utilized for labor saving where steel pipes are used for heating.
In places where lightweight pipes are used, automatic guidance of an electric vehicle is suggested to help in the execution of these operations.
Automatic transportation of products from a greenhouse to an adjacent packing house can also reduce manual labor.
A vehicle with automatic guidance was developed, which uses leader cables for steering along the planned route.
Wiring architecture with vertical cables at the row ends facilitated the identification of the row end; a special coil detected the electromagnetic field emitted by the vertical cable but not the field emitted by the horizontal cable.
Time measurements showed that a worker using a cart which is both powered and steered manually, needs twice the time needed by one using an electrically powered and automatically guided vehicle.
