Abstract
The effects of humic substances on plant growth and nutrient accumulation in grapevine rootstocks were studied.
One year old plants of the rootstocks 41B and R 110 were grown in pots of a calcareous soil.
Humic substances were extracted from olive tree leaves mature compost, purified and applied to the soil at various levels.
Rootstocks grown in the presence of humic substances showed increased plant growth and total leaf chlorophyll content and also decreased Chla/Chlb ratio.
Significant increase in shoot and root dry matter as well as in shoot carbohydrate content was observed in rootstock plants treated with humic substances.
The nutrient accumulation in roots and leaves of grapevine rootstock plants was strongly affected by the addition of humic substances.
The macroelements P, K and Ca content increased significantly in roots of 41B plants while only Ca content increased in R110 roots, in the presence of humic substances.
The root and leaf level of total Fe was increased significantly by the humic substances treatment in both 41B and R110 rootstocks.
The same results were obtained with the micronutrients Mn and Zn.
