Abstract
The actin content was quantified by scanning of stained immunoblots probed with anti-actin antibodies.
The highest actin content was found in tissues of the routes of long-distance transport (Heracleum phloem -2, 2% and xylem -1% of total protein) and in actively growing plant parts (wheat coleoptile, leaf, and root tip – 1,2 -0,8% of total protein in the tissue). In the cells ceased growth (basal part of the wheat root and interbundle parenchyma of Heracleum petiole), the content of actin was lower by the order of magnitude.
Possible mechanisms of actin involvement in the transport and growth processes are discussed.
