Abstract
First studies on fireblight resistance of 11 pear- (Pyrus communis) and 14 apple- (Malus sylvestris) varieties were undertaken in the affected region of Schleswig-Holstein in the Fed.
Rep. of Germany under natural and artificial infection conditions. 2 pear varieties, ‘Alexandre Lucas’ and ‘Beurré Hardy’, were rated as resistant, the other varieties were high to moderate susceptible.
The apple varieties in general showed a marked higher degree of resistance, 7 were rated as resistant: (in descending order) ‘Ontario’, ‘Golden Delicious’, ‘Finkenwerder’, ‘Martini’, ‘Gravensteiner’ and ‘Ingrid Marie’.
