Abstract
A method was worked out and optimized for the large scale screening of plum pox virus infection of different plants.
Peroxidase labelled anti-virus antibody was used in the ELISA test, and some advantages of this enzyme tag over alkaline phosphatase were demonstrated.
Discrimination between infected and healthy samples was made by taking into account the ratio of O.D. values of the test and that of the control (healthy) plant samples.
The authors stress the applicability of this method to both photometric and visual evaluation.
The ability to evaluate ELISA with the naked eye gives this method a measure of independence from the laboratory, making it a versatile field screening method.
