About this Working Group

The Working Group Figs is dedicated to fig genetics, breeding, cultivation, postharvest and other fig production related aspects. It is committed to promoting new methods and novel technologies in scientific research and industrial development of figs. This Working Group is also a platform for introducing new cultivars and cultivation methods, supporting discussions on novel fig related developments and trends, in order to maintain the environmental and economic sustainability of this historical horticultural crop to cope with challenges brought by climate change. The Working Group is committed to promoting the economic potential of figs for enhancing horticultural profitability and human health in regions suitable for fig production. The Working Group organizes international symposia every four years and various other activities to promote information exchange, attract young scientists to participate in fig related research and development, and enhance the competitiveness of fig production.
