Temperate Tree Fruits

The Division Temperate Tree Fruits (DFRU) is composed of ten Working Groups aiming to foster collaboration among scientists and promote research and technological advances pertaining to most of the tree fruit crops grown in temperate regions of the world. The Working Groups organize symposia on a regular basis (usually meeting at four-year intervals) that are focused on advancing our understanding of the biology, physiology, ecology and genetics of the crops, as well as developments in cultivar breeding and evaluation, orchard management and fruit postharvest handling. These symposia are ideal opportunities not just to learn about the most exciting work dedicated to a crop from researchers around the world, but also for building the professional network a scientist needs to progress professionally and personally. These symposia are renowned for their potential for exchanging ideas and developing international collaborations. They also enhance a specialist’s awareness of various approaches to growing the same crop in different parts of the world. They are a must for all researchers, but particularly for young scientists and those who are new to specific fruit tree crops, to gain a perspective on the problems and opportunities for research on those crops.
