Organic Temperate Fruits
The Working Group Organic Fruit was formally started in 2012 at the II International Organic Fruit Symposium. This symposium followed a previous one in 2008, also focused on organic fruit and organized under the auspices of the ISHS Commission Sustainability through Integrated and Organic Horticulture. The International Symposium on Innovation in Integrated and Organic Horticulture (INNOHORT) in 2015 was the next iteration, which broadened the focus to fruits and vegetables, and beyond strictly organic systems. The two organic fruit symposia have encompassed all disciplines related to organic fruit production and quality, including economics and consumer science. With the focus on organic fruit, both symposia provided excellent opportunities for learning and interaction about organic fruit systems which have been expanding worldwide in the past decade or more. Previous symposia were open to all organic fruits, but the majority of presentations were on temperate organic fruit. This Working Group has been renamed Organic Temperate Fruits and there is now a separate Organic Tropical and Subtropical Fruits Working Group.
