Abstract
This paper summarizes the effects of three deficit irrigation regimes on different quantitative and qualitative characteristics on two cultivars of grapevine.
The experimental work was carried out in 2014 in a vineyard planted with white cultivars of Vitis vinifera L. ‘Airén’ and ‘Macabeo’ located in Albacete (central Spain), under semi-arid climate conditions.
The vineyard was planted in 1999, plant spacing was 3×1.5 m and the whole plot was irrigated by a drip system with one line per row and emitters every 0.5 m within the line.
Cultural practices and canopy management were similar in both cultivars.
The three irrigation regimes were: T1: water stress after veraison, T2: water stress before veraison, and T3: sustained deficit irrigation treatment from flowering to harvest.
The parameters analyzed were components of yield, technological maturity, nitrogen and aromatic composition of grapes.
Results suggest a different behaviour between the two cultivars of grapevine under similar irrigation management. ‘Airén’ showed differences in yield whereas ‘Macabeo’ showed differences in grape composition.
