Relationship between cold hardiness and bud opening among peach cultivars during a constant experimental deacclimation

Abstract

This study was performed to investigate the relationship between bud opening and cold hardiness levels in response to an environmentally controlled deacclimation in 10 peach (Prunus persica) cultivars (‘Aikawanakajima’, ‘Chiyomaru’, ‘Daewol’, ‘Janghowon Hwangdo’, ‘Kiraranokiwami’, ‘Mihong’, ‘Misshong’, ‘Soomee’, ‘Suhong’ and ‘Sun Gold’). Notably, cold hardiness after the deacclimation was not coincided with cold hardiness before the deacclimation in the 10 peach cultivars assayed.
On the other hand, a strong positive correlation was found between cold hardiness before the deacclimation and the stage of bud opening.
