Furthering the utilization of Vaccinium constablaei and V. virgatum germplasm in cultivar development

Abstract

The USDA-ARS blueberry breeding program has had the goal of introgressing V. constablaei Gray into rabbiteye (V. virgatum Aiton) backgrounds.
This manuscript outlines the strategies being used to accomplish these goals, with the recently released cultivar ‘Nocturne’, as an example.
