Abstract
A weed control program for strawberries is given which includes preplant site preparation, first and second year weed control, and weed control at renovation time for strawberries.
The first year program includes: disk soil immediately before setting plants; apply DCPA the same day plants are set; remove weeds before and after the diphenamid application; apply chloroxuron if weeds become established in late summer; and use napropamide or diphenamid for winter weed control.
During the second year apply chloroxuron if common chickweed is present or apply diphenamid or napropamide for general weed suppression prior to berry harvest.
The strawberry beds may be renovated by: mowing and raking; fertilization; narrowing rows; thinning plants if too thick; removing weeds between plants; applying a herbicide; and irrigating if necessary.
