Abstract
The ‘Andesnectres’ nectarine usually shows a rapid flesh firmness loss after harvest.
According to some authors, this important quality attribute may be influenced by the concentration of calcium (Ca) in the fruit, which could be associated with the presence of auxins.
This research aimed to determine the effect of Ca applications to the soil, along with the synthetic auxin 2,4-DP spray at 80% petal fall on the quality of ‘Andesnectres’ nectarines at harvest and postharvest.
An experiment was conducted by randomly selecting 24 trees from an orchard during the 2020-21 season.
The results indicate that Ca + 2,4-DP applications increase maximum compression strength and promote greater firmness.
Moreover, Ca applications reduce the incidence of browning at the ripe stage, while Ca + 2,4-DP applications decreased mealiness during the same period, compared to the control.
Additionally, data suggest that the synergy between Ca and 2,4-DP tends to increase fruit Ca concentration.
In conclusion, the application of Ca + 2,4-DP improves fruit quality at the ripe stage, enhances maximum compressive strength and firmness, and reduces the incidence of mealiness.
