Abstract
In vitro mutagenesis followed by in vitro selection may develop into a powerful tool in the breeding of vegetatively propagated crops.
To study the possibilities of in vitro selection, the growth and flowering of seven chrysanthemum morifolium cv Parliament mutants was studied both in vitro and in vivo.
The in vivo characterisation is reported in this paper.
The mutants differed from the control in short days to flower, rate of flower abortion, long day leaf number and internode length.
Differences in the latter character were also well expressed in vitro.
