Abstract
Lettuce plants were grown in five graded perlites.
The highest yields were obtained in more fine graded perlites.
The data suggest that the near steady state moisture along the bag profile in more fine graded perlites provided a better medium for root growth that avoids water stress, resulting in higher water consumption, higher growth rates and higher yields.
