Abstract
Field trials were conducted to test the effectiveness of antagonistic plants on the populations of Pratylenchus penetrans and Pythium species which are involved in replant disease.
The marigold (Tagetes patula, cv.
Harmony) substantially reduced P. penetrans and Pythium species populations.
Creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra) and red top (Agrostis alba) also reduced P. penetrans populations.
However, Canola crop substantially increased the population of P. penetrans as well as Pythium species.
These observations suggest that marigold cv.
Harmony may be used to reduce the populations of P. penetrans and Pythium species in replant soil.
