Abstract
Is it profitable to invest in a flame cultivator?

Experimental trials with flame cultivation were made in onions and beets in organic farming.
An economic model with flame cultivation was set up to show the relationship between costs of flaming and treated area.
These trials and the model are the background for calculating the costs of flame cultivation using two different flame cultivators.

The models shows that it is profitable to invest in a flame cultivator to treat just a few hectares (1–5 hectares depending on the crop) compares with hand-weeding.

It is nessary to treat an area of more than 6–20 hectares to reduce the costs to under 1000 Danish Crowns (dkr) per hectare (1$ = 6,53dkr).
