Abstract
For on-line optimization of climate control in greenhouse production simple growth models are needed.
Grossphotosynthesis was chosen as a suitable criterion.
The purpose of this study was to develop a summary model from KORASIM a SUCROS version for kohlrabi.
One question was wether experiments may be (partly) replaced by growth models.

Development of the summary model Meta-KORASIM was done in 4 steps:

  • grossphotosynthesis data for different levels of temperature, CO2 and radiation were generated by KORASIM

  • a response surface equation (product model) was fitted to the data

  • from residual analysis no important systematic effects were found

  • model validation resulted in highly correlated values for simulated daily grossphotosynthesis and fresh- weight at harvest time predicted by KORASIM and Meta-KORASIM

With regression analysis a suitable way exists to simplify complex growth models.
Thus models may replace experiments.
To use this potential better further improvements of the basic models are essential.
