Abstract
Conditions of soils and manuring of protected cultivation in the Mediterranean area are compared with those of the European atlantic zone.
The main points of differences with the Mediterranean soils are : low humus content, very high level of lime and soil salinity.
Practical recommendations are given for manuring and irrigation.
