DETERMINATION OF FUSARIUM OXYSPORUM F.SP. NIVEUM RACES IN THE EASTERN-MEDITERRANEAN REGION OF TURKEY AND RESPONSE OF SOME WATERMELON GENOTYPES TO THE DISEASE
The study was carried out between 1993 and 1997.
The prevalence and incidence ratios of the disease were 56 % and 16 % in Adana and 66 % and 23 % in Içel, respectively.
Out of 67 Fusarium isolates obtained from wilted sample plants, a total of 47 were identified as F.oxysporum and found to be pathogenic.
In order to determine the races, each of the pathogenic isolates was tested on determiner genotypes.
According to the results, the Fusarium isolates consisted of three races of which three isolates were of the race 0, 30 isolates were of the race 1 and 14 isolates were of the race 2.
A total of 19 watermelon cultivars were tested against three races of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.niveum. On the one hand, all of the tested cultivars were determined to be high or medium level resistant to the races 0 and 1, on the other the cultivars were sensitive or low level resistant to the race 2.
