Abstract
Air temperature in glass- and plastic-houses rises above 40°C on sunny days when ventilation of the houses is not sufficient.
Poor fruit setting of tomato has been frequently observed under these conditions.
Main objects of this study were to obtain data with respect to the following four points:

  1. How high is the critical temperature for fruit setting of tomato,

  2. The effect of length of exposure to high temperature,

  3. The differences in susceptibility to high temperature of seedlings and flowers in various stages of development and

  4. Control measures to overcome poor fruit setting of flowers exposed to high temperature.
