Abstract
Cucumbers can be sown outdoors in Israel in mid-March.
Growers sometimes risk earlier plantings but failure is more frequent than success.
The winter temperatures in Israel (Fig. 1)-make possible the extensive use of plastic film for forcing cucumbers and other vegetables.
During nearly three months of growth under plastic (January – March, half of which is during the heavy rainy season), frequent ventilation becomes highly important.
Experiments with tomatoes under plastic tunnels have shown clearly that normal and healthy growth and development can be secured only under perforated plastic (Slomnicki and Rylski, 1962).

The goal of this experiment was to determine if perforation of the film would have similar effects on cucumbers.
