Abstract
Bromeliad breeding has a history of almost 150 years.
Different old hybrids are still available, but more and more new ones are announced.
Only the number of concerned genera remains limited, with Aechmea, Guzmania and Vriesea as most important representatives.
The appearance of spineless leaves in the Aechmeacultivars offers one of the best prospects.
