Abstract
Trials of chemical nematode control were carried out in 1998 against Meloidogyne incognita on cantaloupe and tobacco in southern Italy.
Pre-plant soil fumigation with metham potassium, metham sodium or 1,3 dichloropropene (1,3-D 97) were the most effective treatments.
Pre-plant application of granular or microincapsulated liquid fenamiphos gave very good results on cantaloupe.
However, all treatments significantly increased yields and decreased root gall indices to different extents.
Significant increases in yields of tobacco were obtained only by soil fumigation with 1,3-D 97 or with pre-plant application of aldicarb; the root gall index on this crop was reduced only slightly to moderately by the different treatments.
Post-plant treatments were effective on neither crop.
