Abstract
The Niagara Parks Commission (Ontario, Canada) was established in 1885 to enhance the lands adjacent to Niagara Falls and now exists as a park of 1619 hectares.
The School of Horticulture was begun in 1936. The Botanical Garden at the Park, operated by the School, has a role as both an educational institution for study and research, as well as a tourist attraction.
Operation of the School and Garden is partially supported by revenue from tourist services.
Students in the school complete a 36-month study program which includes learning 2,000 plant names, culture and use.
The School annually accepts 12 to 15 students has had more than 500 graduates since its beginning and near 100% employment placement rate of graduates.
The School and Garden added a Butterfly Conservatory in 1996. Since that time, more than one million guests visit the Park.
In order to facilitate research and educational programs, the School has created joint ventures with Brock University, and the University of Guelph.
