Abstract
This keynote address provides a broad overview of current thinking in higher education, especially in relation to teaching and learning theme and its associated sub-topics of distance learning, outcomes-based learning, problem-based learning, flexible learning, internationalisation of the curriculum and linking research and practice.
From an international discussion of support mechanisms for learning and teaching in higher education, eight recurrent themes emerge that require redress at one of three levels: national, institutional and individual.
