Abstract
Among the most devastating fungal pathogens of Proteaceae are Colletotrichum spp., causing seedling damping off, shepherds crook (anthracnose), pruning wound dieback, leaf lesions and stem dieback.
The morphological identification of Colletotrichum spp. has been beset by confusion since earliest times.
The main stumbling block impeding correct identification is phenotypic variation occurring due to varying environmental conditions.
The aim of the present study was to use molecular techniques to characterise Colletotrichum spp. associated with diseases of Proteaceae worldwide.
