Abstract
Turfgrass species that were considered suitable for Hunan province have been introduced and assessed in relation to the climatic characteristics.
Several desirable species were selected.
Research was also focused on naturally distributed Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro.) Hack.
The studies showed that warm-season turfgrasses should be selected as the main species for use in Hunan province, and some cool-season turfgrasses should also be introduced.
Species suitable for Hunan province are as follows: Cynodon dactylon, Zoysia sinica, Zoysia matrella (L.) Merr., Zoysia tenuifolia Willd., Eragrostis curvula (Schrad.) Ness., Buchloe dactyloides, Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro.) Hack., Paspalum notatum Flugge, Paspalum vaginatum Swartz and Festuca arundinacea Schreb.
